The Path to Becoming a MAP-CP

Scope of Practice & Ethics (In Brief)

MAP-CPs:

  • Work in a coaching capacity, helping clients define goals, clear blocks, and take aligned action.

  • Do not diagnose, treat, or replace medical/mental health care.

  • Refer out when needs fall outside coaching scope (e.g., crisis, untreated psychiatric conditions).

  • Protect client confidentiality and data in accordance with legal and ethical guidelines.

  • Communicate fees, expectations, and limits with transparency and care.

How MAP-CPs Work With Clients

MAP-CPs Do:

  • Clarify goals and context – create a safe, client-centered space for exploration.

  • Gain informed consent – ensure clients understand the process and agree before beginning.

  • Facilitate MAP sessions – guide clients to reduce emotional intensity and shift subconscious patterns.

  • Encourage integration – support clients with reflection, action steps, and follow-through.

  • Maintain ethical standards – uphold confidentiality, respect boundaries, and work within scope.

MAP-CPs Don’t:

  • Diagnose conditions – no medical or mental health diagnoses.

  • Replace therapy or medicine – MAP is a coaching method, not treatment.

  • Provide crisis intervention – refer clients in immediate crisis to qualified professionals.

  • Overstep boundaries – avoid imposing personal beliefs or making inappropriate suggestions.

  • Guarantee results – outcomes are client-driven and cannot be promised.
